Springdale, AR - The Northwest Arkansas Community Foundation (NWACF) awarded five grants totaling $48,600 to area nonprofits from a fund established by the Northwest Medical Auxiliary within the Community Foundation. The Auxiliary Grants Committee reviewed the following grants from these five organizations that were later approved by the NWACF Board at their January 19 board meeting.
Micki Harrington, vice-chair of the NWACF Board, pointed out the range and variety of interests expressed in these grants recommended by the Northwest Medical Auxiliary Fund.
"We now have grants going to a variety of causes which will all help improve the quality of life in this region. This community foundation is dedicated to helping more nonprofits do a better job of serving their clients throughout all Northwest Arkansas," stressed Harrington.
The following five grants approved for $48,600 were:
Area Health Education Center (ChildrenŐs Safety Center) - $3,300 to provide training for staff who work with sexually abused children.
KIDCARE - $21,000 to purchase a bus and supplies for an after-school care program for Jones, Parson Hills, and Lee Elementary schools in Springdale.
Northwest Arkansas for Nurses - $1,000 to sponsor the "Stars for Nursing Gala" event.
Siloam Springs High School Band - $5,000 to assist with expenses for the Band's trip to perform in a music festival in Luxembourg.
Washington County Government (Nob Hill Volunteer Fire Association) - $18,300 to purchase equipment for a tanker truck to be based at Burk Shed.
The Northwest Arkansas Community Foundation helps nonprofit agencies in Northwest Arkansas. It was founded in 1998 as the Community Foundation of Bentonville/Bella Vista and was expanded to include Washington, Benton, Madison and Carroll Counties. The community foundation also serves as the lead public foundation operated in connection with CommunityCare Foundation. A community foundation is a publicly-supported, grant-making charity structured as a group of endowed funds.
