CLE Course for Attorneys

For Release: May 12, 2003

Springdale, AR - Northwest Arkansas Community Foundation (NWACF) and Benton County Bar Association will sponsor a Continuing Legal Education (CLE) program, "Creative Philanthropic Options: – Ways to help your client, community, and charity", for local attorneys on May 22, 2003. The program will feature Michele Harrington and James Smith, attorneys from Springdale and Fayetteville respectively.

Northwest Arkansas Community Foundation's goal for sponsoring this program is to stimulate the growth of philanthropy by providing lawyers who are not typically engaged in estate planning with information about a broad range of philanthropic options they can discuss with their clients. This particular curriculum has been adapted from a similar curriculum used with great success in Georgia.

Micki Harrington is the senior partner with Harrington, Miller, Neihouse & Krug, P.A., in Springdale. The firm's areas of practice include estate planning and probate, general corporate and business law, contract and real estate law, sexual harassment and civil rights litigation, taxation and land use law. Ms. Harrington is an honors graduate from Kansas University and the University of Arkansas School of Law.

James W. Smith is a partner in the tax and business transactions practice group of Friday Eldredge & Clark, LLP, based in Fayetteville. His practice includes individual and corporate tax planning, estate planning and charitable giving. He is a cum laude graduate of Arkansas Tech University with a Bachelor of Science in Accounting, an honor graduate of the University of Arkansas School of Law, and holds a Masters of Law in Taxation from New York University.

The program will run from 12–2:30 p.m. at 610 E. Emma, rooms 5 & 6 in Springdale. Attorneys will earn 1.5 CLE credits. Cost to attend is $10, which includes lunch. Reservations should be made by May 19 by calling NWACF at 479.361.4624.

Northwest Arkansas Community Foundation was founded in 1999.
